Let’s Go Quackers

On Monday 3rd September, the auction for the ducks that were part of the “Let’s Go Quackers” charity event for Telford’s 50th Anniversary celebrations took place in Charlton’s Sports Hall.

“Let’s Go Quackers” was a trail of painted duck statues that were designed by various students and artists throughout Telford and Wrekin which were displayed throughout Ironbridge and Southwater. In total there were ten ducks; Dr. Duck and Peace Duck were designed by Charlton students James Harwood and Amber Whitaker.

The idea was proposed by Julie Ward who was inspired by Norwich’s gorilla trail. It was approved by Telford and Wrekin’s Pride In Your High Street Fund who gave Julie a grant of £18,000 to carry out the project. The ducks were bought from Liverpool and all funds from that purchase were donated to MacMillan.

The ducks had been on display from May 5th to July 8th throughout Ironbridge and then had moved to Southwater for 14th and 15th of July.

The auction for the large ducks, as well as seven smaller replicas, began at 7:30pm on Monday, with £1,300 in starting bids already placed prior to the event. In total £20,000 was raised at the auction, with £10,000 raised separately via donations, GoFundMe and t-shirt sales.

All funds from £30,000 raised were donated to the Jayne Sargent Foundation and the Severn Hospice.
