Charlton School

Rewards

In all classrooms we aim for consistent, calm adult behaviour where praise outweighs consequence by a ratio of 80:20. Awards are available for students who demonstrate consistently positive behaviours or those who have made improvements in their behaviour in the short term. There are many ways staff recognise excellent behaviour and attitude to learning. The following rewards are available to all students.

House points

There are two types of recognition available: in year and accumulative. House points are awarded for students who display the school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. The threshold points are below for various levels of recognition:

In year:

  • 50 points: Email home from Head of Year
  • 100 points: Letter Home from Assistant Vice Principal
  • 150 points: Commendation Certificate from the principal

Accumulative:

  • 750 points: Bronze badge and certificate
  • 1500 points: Silver badge and certificate
  • 2500 points: Gold badge and certificate
  • 3500 points: Special Achievement Award

Head of Year Award

Each week tutors nominate someone from their form who has shown the school values particularly well or someone who has made a special achievement. The Head of Year selects one student to receive the HOY award. A commendation letter and certificate are awarded.

Pastoral student of the month

Each month students are recognised for their kindness to other students or for a personal achievement by the pastoral team. One student per year group is selected and presented with a certificate. Certificates are displayed in reception.

Outstanding work commendations

When students produce excellent work teachers can send them to visit Mr McNaughton who will congratulate them and send a letter home for their good work.

Praise postcards from subject teachers

Teachers recognise good work in the classroom which is beyond the recognition of a house point by sending a praise postcard home. These can be given directly to students or may be posted home to parents and carers.

Fast track dinner pass

Students with the most house points each week are awarded a fast-track lunch pass, this enables them to skip the queue for lunch.

Attendance

Attendance certificates and badge are awarded to students who achieve 100% attendance.

Celebration trips

Students are invited to a celebration trip at the end of each year. Criteria for permission to attend the trip varies depending on year group priorities as decided by the Head of Year.

Outstanding Attitude to Learning

Students who achieve an outstanding attitude to learning across all subjects are rewarded with a commendation letter.

Celebration Assemblies

Subject Awards are given during celebration assemblies at the end of each term. Two students are awarded for effort in each curriculum area. Certificates presented by the Head of Year during termly celebration assemblies.

Charlton Pride Award

Students can be recognised for a special achievement and celebrated through the Charlton Pride awards on the school website.
