RE: Ski Trip to The Milky Way – Sestriere- Sauze D’Oulx – Italy 2024

As you may be aware, we organise a ski trip for students on an annual basis. We have provisionally booked 40 places for a ski trip to Italy on Friday 29th March 2024 for 8 days. The trip will cost approximately £1090 (based on 40 paying students; if we obtain fewer numbers then there may be a small supplement) and includes 5 hours ski instruction a day in a small group environment, 5 full days of skiing, hire of skis and boots, lift pass for the entire duration of the trip, comprehensive travel insurance and full board in a three star hotel, which is located a short journey away from the slopes. We will travel by executive coach and the journey could take around 24 hours to reach the resort.

If your child would like to go on this trip, please return the slip below to school by Wednesday 14th December 2022, this will be on a first come first served basis, and then a deposit of £100 will be required to secure their place. This must be returned to school by no later than 9th January 2023, in a secure envelope with the child’s name on, or on ParentPay (which will be set up on receipt of the slip). Should this trip not take place, this deposit is returnable.

Following the initial deposit, we would then need to receive the following payments over the next year leading up to the trip:

  • 1st February 2023 - £100
  • 1st March 2023 - £100
  • 1st April 2023 - £100
  • 1st May 2023 - £100
  • 1st June 2023 - £100
  • 1st July 2023 - £100
  • 1st September 2023 - £100
  • 1st October 2023 - £100
  • 1st November 2023 - £100
  • 13th January 2024 - £90

In order to simplify matters and to ensure that we meet the payment deadlines, we would request that either cash, or postdated cheques are used for all the remaining payments, or by using our online ParentPay payment system. The reason we ask for postdated cheques is should payments not be made on time, the tour companies can include a surcharge. We have in previous years been charged an additional £1000. You can also choose to pay more each month if you wish, please communicate this with Mrs K Hughes in Finance.

**If you would like to see what our ski trip entails, then please head over to Charlton School’s Facebook page to see our video montage of footage from our recent trips.**

Recent court action against teachers acting in good faith as the ‘responsible parent’ on a school trip has necessitated a review of our policy on what is a sensible response to bad behaviour or disobedience.

The key points to follow are:

  • We will operate a zero tolerance on any act, which could result in danger to that person or to others.
  • We operate a zero tolerance on behaviour deemed unacceptable.
  • In either event the pupil concerned will be sent home at short notice entirely at the parent/carer’s expense.
  • Parents, a trusted friend or relative must be available at any time to collect the returned pupil. Clear contact numbers must be provided for that purpose.

Please note that this is an energetic holiday, and it would be advisable not to allow your child to participate if you feel their health would suffer or they would not be able to complete 5 hours of physical activities per day.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs L Perrott

Party Leader
