1st December 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

Time never seems to slow down and before we knew it, we are in December and our Christmas tree is up and decorated in reception!  I hope your preparations for the festive season are also going well.

At the end of term, we will be saying a very sad goodbye to Mrs Julie Swan, our Senior Teaching Assistant.  She has been with us for ten years and has had a huge impact on the lives of many of our students.  I know she will be missed by all our school community and we wish her well for her future outside of Charlton, she has put off leaving for over two years, due to the pandemic and not wanting to leave the students at that time!

Today we welcome Mrs Gaston to our teaching staff.  She is taking over the MFL lessons of Mr Nicklin until the end of the year.  I am sure our students will give her a warm Charlton welcome.

We break up for the holiday on Friday 17th December, we will be finishing at our usual time of 3.00pm, school buses will run as usual at this time.  Normal lessons will run for periods 1 to 4, students will then return to form until the end of the day, for our virtual Christmas assembly.

Prior to breaking up we will be publishing details of a virtual Christmas Concert that will be made available to view online for all parents, carers and families.

On Thursday 16th December, we will be holding a Christmas themed non-uniform day.  Students can wear their own clothes, hopefully with a touch of tinsel, or a Christmas jumper, for the cost of £1, payable on the day.  This year we are raising money for Save the Children and the Learning Community Trust food hub, which provides food and household goods to members of our own community who need it the most.

Further details about these organisations can be found here:

Save the Children - https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/

LCT Food Hub - https://learningcommunitytrust.co.uk/blog/2021/03/22/lct-has-opened-a-new-food-hub-hlc/

Also on Thursday 16th December, we will be having our school Christmas Dinner day, the canteen will still provide a reduced menu on this day, for students who do not wish to purchase a school dinner. The Christmas lunch is available for £2.40 and includes a main course and pudding!

Please can I take this opportunity to remind you that all students, unless exempt, should bring a face mask to school now.  This must be worn at all times in the building, apart from in classrooms or when eating in the canteen.  We are having to provide a lot of masks at this time and it is simply not possible to keep doing this.  Please provide your child with a face covering every day.

Thank you all for your continuing support!

Yours faithfully

Mr A McNaughton

Principal
