Further to the letter sent out yesterday by Mr Roberts, Executive Principal, from the Learning Community Trust announcing the early school closure at 1:00pm on Friday 16th December.

7th December 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,

Further to the letter sent out yesterday by Mr Roberts, Executive Principal, from the Learning Community Trust announcing the early school closure at 1:00pm on Friday 16th December, I can confirm that the school bus services to our rural community will be operating. The A-Star and AT Brown coaches will leave shortly after the school closes and the Arriva bus has a pickup scheduled for 1:21pm.

As we move into the last few days of the Autumn term, and rapidly towards the Christmas holiday, we have several events I would like to draw your attention to:

  • Charlton Dance Showcase (School Hall) – Thursday 8th December at 7:00pm
  • Evening Christmas Concert (All Saints Parish Church) – Tuesday 13th December at 7:00pm
  • Christmas Dinner Day – Thursday 15th December (Cost £2.50)
  • Christmas Jumper/Non-uniform Day – Friday 16th December (Donation of £1 – proceeds to Save the Children)

Last week a highly valued colleague retired, Cathy McGilvery, PA to me and the senior team. Cathy has worked at for Charlton for 9 years and has had a significant impact on the lives of our staff, students, and families. She will be missed greatly, especially by myself but also by our whole school community. We wish her the happiest, healthy retirement. We have appointed Mrs Jackson-Payne as her replacement.

At the end of term, we will also be saying goodbye to Mr Redman (Head of Year 7 and History teacher), Mr Ellam (Head of Computer Science), Miss Knight (English teacher) and Mrs Goodwin (Receptionist); we wish them all well in their new positions. We also wish Mrs Groves (Head of History) and Mrs Lewis (Science teacher) the very best of luck and good health as they start their maternity leave at or shortly after Christmas.

Following the closure of the parent ballot, I am able to confirm that Eva Langley received the highest number of votes and has been elected parent governor. She is delighted to have been elected and is looking forward to working with the governing body.

One final reminder, we break up for our Christmas holiday at 1:00pm on Friday 16th December and students return to school on Wednesday 4th January 2023.

Please can I take this opportunity to wish you all a happy, healthy Christmas.

Yours faithfully,

Mr A McNaughton

Principal
