Home Learning Post Easter Updates

Firstly, I wanted to say thank you for the work you are currently doing with students to facilitate their home learning.  I know that it is a very difficult time for families across the country, so your support and encouragement is very much appreciated.

Dear Parent/Carer

Firstly, I wanted to say thank you for the work you are currently doing with students to facilitate their home learning.  I know that it is a very difficult time for families across the country, so your support and encouragement is very much appreciated.

There is no expectation that students will complete home learning during the Easter holidays (which commences on 6th April for two weeks).  We have also told staff that they should not be setting work during this time or responding to emails from students/parents/carers regarding the work that has been previously set.

Home learning will continue to be set by teachers from Monday 20th April on Doddle or be provided as paper copies if you have previously requested this.  Some important information in relation to the format of home learning from Easter onwards is below:

  1. Staff will be uploading to Doddle a three- or six-week learning overview for each subject (this will be dependent on each curriculum area due to the variation in the numbers of lessons that students have for each subject).  This will provide students with a wider context of the work that they are completing and give them a more visual way to see the links between the learning activities that they are completing.  This overview will also be emailed to students when they are contacted by their class teacher at the start of the summer term (20th April onwards).
  2. We have asked staff to contact students on a regular basis, this may be fortnightly or every half term depending on the curriculum area.

The context of this contact will vary depending on the curriculum area.  It may take the form of an email to check how students are getting on with the set work or provide them with instructions on how to complete a piece of work that will assessed by the teacher.  Any work that is being assessed by the teacher will be set as ‘homework’ within Doddle, as opposed to normal home learning tasks which are set within ‘classwork’.  These assessed tasks are vital for teachers as they will provide us with information on gaps in students’ knowledge which we can then address when students return to school.

A reminder that students can access the Charlton study zone to support them with their home learning which can be accessed at http://www.charlton.uk.com/quick-links/students/study-zone. This is also clearly identified on the main header bar as you access the main school web site.  Guidance on how to access Office 365 can also be found in the study zone section.

Attached to this letter are also a list of websites which we have previously sent out which will further support students.

The passwords for the various learning platforms can be viewed on each students MyChildAtSchool page.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding access online, please make contact through helpme@charlton.uk.com at which point we will give further guidance.

Thank you again for your continued support during this time, and I hope that you and your family enjoy the Easter break as best of possible.  Best wishes and good health.

Yours faithfully

Mr J Foster
