Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you and your family are well, it is lovely to have warmer weather and everyone is looking forward to the half-term break.

My letters are not quite as frequent as we really are back to normal in our schools which is fantastic. Since Easter the situation has significantly improved, and we have our staff back with very few unwell which makes such a huge difference to the children and students. A dramatic change from the first two months of this year!

Our attendance is still good and our Attendance and Welfare Team are out in all our schools each week supporting good attendance and punctuality. It is incredibly important that all our children are in school every day and I do ask you to support this so we can really ensure they are happy, enjoying school and making good progress.

There have been parents’ evenings and events this half-term and the feedback I have had is how delighted parents are to be back in schools, meeting staff and enjoying hearing how well their child is doing.

We have now completed Y6 SATs, the children were excellent and really worked hard over the four days. The GCSEs are up and running and Y11 have already sat a number of exams and these continue well into late June, again they are determined to do as well as they can.

We had amazing Primary Science Fairs last week and it was a privilege to be part of the judging team, we have lots of brilliant young scientists!

All our schools have planned lovely Jubilee Celebrations this week or after half-term to mark the Queen’s extraordinary achievement of 70 years as Monarch. It is so important that our children understand this important milestone in our history.

It is that time of year when we are interviewing for new staff for September and we have appointed some great new staff. We are also working on transition and new children joining our Special Schools, into Reception and also Year 7 in September – all our schools are very popular and we will be full for the start of the academic year.

I will write with another update after half-term.

Kind regards,

Dr. Gill Eatough
