Welcome Back from Principal Autumn 2

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn Term.  We look forward to our students excelling in all they do between now and Christmas.

9th November 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn Term.  We look forward to our students excelling in all they do between now and Christmas.

I would like to start by praising Year 11 students and the commitment they have so far shown to their mock exams that are taking place this week and next.  A large number are taking advantage of our revision breakfasts and after-school preparation sessions.  I hope their efforts are rewarded with a good set of predicted grades that they will use for their post 16 applications.

I am sure our full school community will join me in sending our best wishes to a couple of members of staff, Mrs Peel has started her maternity leave this week and is replaced in DT by Mrs Tye until Christmas.  At the end of this week Mrs Gallier our Year 8 Pastoral Manager is retiring.  She has twice worked at Charlton, for the second time since 2006 and supported thousands of students in her role.  She has been a thoroughly reliable and dependable colleague and a source of great help to staff, students and families.  We will greatly miss Mrs Gallier’s warmth and nurturing personality, she has had such a positive impact on so many of our children, helping to shape their lives for the better.   We wish Mrs Gallier a very happy and healthy retirement.

Mrs Gallier is being replaced by Mrs Darrall, who will be starting with us on Thursday 23rd November.  In the interim Mrs Hall, Head of Year 8, will be the main point of contact for the year group and she will be supported in school by colleagues to manage the year group until Mrs Darrall starts.

Despite my reminder prior to breaking up for the holiday some students are still not in full uniform or following our uniform guidelines.  Please support us in ensuring your child wears the correct full school uniform when leaving the house.  Details of our uniform expectations can be found on our website:  https://charlton.uk.com/parent-student-information/uniform

In particular the areas that have declined are:

  • Wearing of trainers instead of school shoes
  • Girls wearing leggings instead of school trousers
  • Students wearing the school jumper instead of the blazer, jumpers can only be worn under the blazer and not as a replacement
  • The wearing of hoodies or sweatshirts under the blazer
  • Use of airpods/earphones in school, these will be confiscated if seen
  • Jewellery - wearing of rings, bracelets and hooped or dangly earrings instead plain studs.

Thank you for your continued partnership in working together to support your child to ensure they make the best possible use of the time they have with us at Charlton.

Yours faithfully,

Mr A McNaughton

Principal
