20th November 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for your continued support and kind words regarding the efforts our staff are making to overcome the significant difficulties we are all facing at this time.  Your positive messages are greatly appreciated.

Please can I ask that over the weekend you ensure all students have a supply of masks available for Monday. I would recommend they bring a spare mask to school just in case they lose or break their original one.  The number of masks we are having to give out at present is unacceptable and unsustainable moving forward.

We will have to further consider appropriate actions to take against students who repeatedly forget masks and for those who are having to constantly be reminded to wear them. Please remind your child they should be wearing their mask in all communal areas of the school, including corridors and the canteen. We are at the stage now that this should be second nature to them.

Whilst I acknowledge we are all facing challenges with uniform due to having to wear PE kit on certain days, can I ask that you discourage your child from wearing any non-Charlton items of kit, especially hoodies.  Please also remind your child of the need to bring a coat as they will still be spending time outside at break and lunch, even as we move deeper into Winter.

We have noticed since half-term far more parents seeking advice from the school as to whether they should send their child to school or not, due to either symptoms in the family or different scenarios.  We are more than happy to advise parents and continue to urge parents to err on the side of caution prior to sending their child to school.  I would like to remind parents of the following:

It is of vital importance that as a community we follow the rules below regarding not attending school in these circumstances.

  • Students should not attend school if either themselves or any member of their household are showing coronavirus symptoms, they should remain off until the results of a test are known
  • Students should not attend school if either themselves or any member of their household are awaiting the results of a coronavirus test, they can return to school if the test is negative
  • Students should not attend school if either themselves or any member of their household have had a positive test result

On more mundane and non-coronavirus related items, please can we ask for your cooperation when using the carpark.  Parents should remain in their vehicles and park in the designated bays whilst waiting for your child.  Please do not park on the yellow lines or down the centre of the carpark of the one-way loop, this becomes very inconvenient for the parents who do follow the rules.

Have a good weekend.

Yours faithfully

Mr A McNaughton - Principal
