Dear Parent/Carer,

RE: Online educational workshops for your child on the 26th of January, 2021

I hope you and your family are safe and well. Before the lockdown period, Charlton School were planning a ‘Curriculum Enhancement’ Day on January 26th, 2021, in order for students across all year groups to participate in activities linked to higher education, careers and goal setting. Due to the government lockdown, unfortunately some of these sessions have had to be cancelled or postponed to a later date. However, I can also confirm that students still get the opportunity to engage with some of the proposed sessions that are to take place, but via Microsoft Teams.

Period one (9am-10am)- year 10- Inspirational speaker Stephen Seki. He came into school last year and was well received due to his excellent public speaking skills. This external speaker will be providing a story (online) of his life and how he came through adversity to achieve goals of going to University.

Period three (11:15-12:15pm)- year 7, 8 and 9- Positively MAD. This educational workshop provider will be delivering an online workshop based on resilience and goal setting, during these testing times of enforced lockdown.

Period five (1:50-2:50pm)- year 11- Positively MAD. The same educational workshop provider will be delivering an online session that focuses on goal mapping, in preparation for the potential college courses and University.

This week, I will be sending a Teams invite to your child as well as an internet-based link to the meeting, in case your child does not accept the Teams invite. Please instruct your child to accept the invite and log onto the session at the proposed time. Teachers who would normally be organising lessons at this time have been informed of the timetable for this day, so that your child does not need to log onto multiple lessons at the same time.

Hopefully these workshops will either provide your child on some useful strategies to boost personal resilience during these difficult times or provide some tips on preparing for their future college and University course. We also hope your child is respectful during the online session and uses the time wisely and making notes, in order to help with their own learning.

Should you have any issues or concerns, please email tbest@charlton.uk.com or call 01952386800. Many thanks for your continued support and co-operation.

Yours faithfully,

Mr T. Best
