Charlton School

End of Term Letter from the Principal

As the clocks sprang forward over the weekend, it reminds us of warmer and lighter days to come as we head towards the summer term. Hopefully the last of the frosts and winter weather is behind us.

Dear Parent/Carer,

As the clocks sprang forward over the weekend, it reminds us of warmer and lighter days to come as we head towards the summer term. Hopefully the last of the frosts and winter weather is behind us.

Looking back at the last snow we had, we will never rely on students texting parents to inform you of a school closure. I am aware several students did this to get picked up when the school wasn’t closing early on the Thursday. We will always use the Telford and Wrekin School Closure website to announce any closure and also our own messaging and social media channels.

This week the majority of our Year 10 cohort are on work experience; we wish them all the very best of luck and hope now they have started the nerves have settled and they have a thoroughly enjoyable time, and for many, the first real taste of what life outside of school is really like.

As we approach the end of term, it is that time again where we have to say goodbye to some colleagues who are moving on to new pastures, some in education and others in the fields of conservation and family support working.

We wish the following staff the very best of luck for the future: Mrs Burrage (Head of Science), Mrs Savage (Science Teacher), Miss Montgomery (Teaching Assistant), Mrs Thomas (Teaching Assistant – leaves 24th April), Miss Hughes (Academic Mentor), Mrs Arnold (Cover - Computing Teacher) and Mr Baro-Thomas (Cover - Maths Teacher).

Joining us for the summer term will be Mr McGinley (Head of Computing), Mr Sawyer (Head of Science), Miss Whitehouse (Science Teacher), and Mrs Gaston (MFL Teacher). Please make them feel very welcome to the Charlton Community. We are also interviewing this week for additional Teaching Assistants, and I will let you know after the holiday about our new starters.

It is full speed ahead with exams for Year 11. They have practical exams taking place this week, MFL speaking exams on their return from Easter, and they will only have 18 school days after the holiday until the summer exam series starts. It is vital they use the Easter holidays to continue to prepare – it is a crucial time for revision. Please encourage them to use their time wisely.

I wish you all a happy, healthy holiday and look forward to your continued support in the summer term.

Yours faithfully,

Mr A McNaughton

Principal
