Dear Parents/Carers

Re: Latest Government Advice Coronavirus – Covid-19

As I am sure many of you are aware, the government yesterday announced new strict measures in the delay phase of limiting the spread of the Coronavirus – Covid-19.

Protecting students and staff from the spread of Covid-19 is our priority, we ask that all members of our school community follow the advice:

If a Charlton student or anyone in the household displays the symptoms of either a new continuous cough or a temperature of 37.8 degrees or above, then the whole household needs to self-isolate for 14 days.

School has received guidance that if a student or staff member is showing these symptoms in school, we are to send them home. This is to protect the health and safety of the rest of our wider school community.

The announcement of the new government advice can be found here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-guidance-for-households-with-possible-covid-19-infection

It is inevitable that this will have a significant impact on the absence of both staff and students.  As requested by the government, schools will remain open at this time.  We will do all we can to remain open, but it is highly likely, that twinned with the additional social distancing measures for vulnerable groups, partial school closure is inevitable.

Any student absence related to Covid-19 will not count against them statistically, this measure has been implemented to encourage parents to follow the government advice.

In response to the advice to limit all non-essential travel and limit social interaction, all extra-curricular after school clubs, including sporting fixtures, have been cancelled.  All trips, both internationally and locally, have been cancelled with immediate effect.  Trip organisers will contact you directly to share further information.

In addition, It is with regret that we have taken the decision to cancel the Year 8 parents evening scheduled for Thursday 26th March, to reduce the number of visitors to the school.

All lessons and Session 6 (Year 11), will continue as planned, as will lunch-time clubs or activities. Year 10 Psychology GCSE at Telford college will continue but is under review on a weekly basis.

We will continue to update you with information from school and the Learning Community Trust on a regular basis.

Thank you for your ongoing support through these unprecedented and challenging times.

Yours faithfully

Mr A McNaughton

Principal
