Potential enforced school closure TRL 17032020[3]

Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: Update re COVID-19 and Potential School Closure

Following previous communication from the school and the Learning Community Trust, I write to provide further information regarding arrangements for all students should any decision be made for the school to be fully or partially closed.  Full closure would not be a decision that the school would take individually and would only follow any directive from the Government or Public Health, partial closure may however have to be considered, depending on staffing levels over the period of time ahead.

Under such circumstances, we would be aiming to ensure that all students were in receipt of work to complete at home, details of proposed arrangements would be as follows:

  1. The school would look to set all work to be completed at home through the ‘Doddle’ platform.  Students regularly access homework through this system so there should be no issues with receiving additional tasks for all subjects.  We would ask that you ensure that your child has their most recent log on information and ask that you contact Mr Thomas (mthomas@charlton.uk.com) should there be any concerns.  Students will find any additional work set within the ‘Classwork’ section of Doddle, this section is not available to view through the parent app, we would therefore ask that you engage with your child to view any tasks set while they are logged into their account.

  1. If for any reason your child does not have online access through either a PC or mobile device, please could I ask that you inform the school by contacting your child’s Head of Year who will pass on any details to our students’ support team, who will arrange for hard copies of any relevant materials to be passed to your child.

  1. The school has created a study zone which can be accessed via the school website at the following address : http://www.charlton.uk.com/quick-links/students/study-zone This is also clearly identified on the main header bar as you access the main school web site.

  1. For Years 7, 8 and 9 students, tasks set will be assignment based and require students to focus on extended pieces of work.  In subjects such as Maths, additional work will be set through the use of the normal learning platforms students already accessed on a weekly basis.

  1. Students in Years 10 and 11 will receive more specific targeted work in line with their current schemes of work, with increased focus on Year 11 who will be preparing for their exams in the normal way.  At this stage there is no specific guidance for schools on what may happen with the examinations due to take place should schools close, therefore the message is a straightforward one, all students should continue to fully prepare no matter if at home or in school.

  1. Throughout any school closure we will continue to communicate to all parents to ensure that any updates are shared clearly throughout.  We would obviously ask for your support in speaking with your child to ensure they are working towards completion of any work set.

I am aware that as parents you will have many questions; our aim is to continue to respond to government advice and ensure that you are updated of any actions the school takes in response.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully

Mr L Tristham
