January 2021 Home Learning

I hope that you managed to have an enjoyable Christmas break despite the current circumstances.  The purpose of this letter is to share with you the confirmation of the home learning arrangements that will take place during the current national lockdown.

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope that you managed to have an enjoyable Christmas break despite the current circumstances.  The purpose of this letter is to share with you the confirmation of the home learning arrangements that will take place during the current national lockdown.

The school day will be amended during the national lockdown period to ensure that all students in school, and those working at home, can access live lessons.  The timings of the day will be as follows:

As per the email last week, Year 11 will receive invitations to live lessons from Tuesday 5th January with work also supplemented via Doddle.  Years 7 to 10 will be set work via Doddle from Tuesday 5th January, with one live lesson offered this week, and more added to the home learning offer from Monday 11th January.  All live lessons are accessed via Microsoft TEAMS, and a reminder of how to access/use TEAMS is attached to this email.

The students in school during the lockdown period (key worker and vulnerable students) will be able to access work on Doddle and their live lessons with the rest of their class.  We have asked students in school to bring in their own headphones if possible, so they can listen to their live lessons, however we do have some in school if needed.

If any students have difficulty accessing Doddle or TEAMS, please email us at helpme@charlton.uk.com and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Below is a reminder of the number of lessons over the fortnightly period that are set via TEAMS or Doddle.

All teachers will be logging ‘remote learning concerns’ via Bromcom which will also appear on My Child at School if students fail to attend a scheduled live lesson, so your support in encouraging them to attend these lessons would be much appreciated.  If you have any concerns with the live lessons please contact the curriculum leader of that subject in the first instance, and if the issue is still not resolved please get in contact with me.

If students do not have access to a laptop to complete their home learning please contact the relevant pastoral manager by email, who will then get in contact with you to offer support.

The government confirmed this morning that all GCSE exams this summer will be cancelled. As a school we have not had any further information regarding the awarding of grades, and we will share this with you when we receive any updates. It is likely however that students in Year 11 will have to complete some form of controlled assessment in place of their exams.  It is therefore vital that Year 11 students access the live lessons and complete work that is set via Doddle.

As a school we aim to offer live lessons to all students as per the allocations shown within the tables above, however there may be occasions that live lessons may be cancelled due to staff illness/ isolation.

Many thanks for your support during this difficult time, and can I assure you that as a school we are doing everything we can to provide students with an effective home learning offer.

Yours faithfully

Mr J Foster
