Covid Home Learning Update to Parents

I would first like to take this opportunity to thank you for ensuring that students have been able to return to school successfully and it has been great to see them all face to face again.

Dear Parents and Carers

I would first like to take this opportunity to thank you for ensuring that students have been able to return to school successfully and it has been great to see them all face to face again. The students have all settled into the new routines put in place, very well and the atmosphere in lessons has been calm with students engaged in their learning again.  The purpose of this letter is to update you in relation to our home learning plans for the year ahead and intervention sessions/extra-curricular clubs.

Tier 1a: Students who are self-isolating:

When a student is self-isolating, parents and carers must ensure that the Attendance Officer is informed so that the correct code is associated with their reason for being absent from school.

Teachers will upload the work that students have missed in lessons, via Doddle.  In the instance that the student is too ill, we do recognise that some of this work may not be completed.  Below is a reminder of how students access Doddle:

Their username is the student’s full name (first letter to each name as capitals and the rest lower case) followed by 20 (the year they started secondary education).

Example:

  • Username: MichaelThomas20
  • Password: charlton (all lower case)

Student passwords will all start off as ‘charlton’. Please advise all students to change it to the same as their computer logins so they remember.

Tier 1b: If a year group bubble is asked to self-isolate at home:

If the school makes the decision to send a year group bubble home to self-isolate for 14 days, all students will receive their lessons in line with their usual timetable. The lessons will take place at the exact same time as if students were within the building to ensure that staff can continue to teach their other classes.  All lessons will be delivered through Microsoft Teams, the system that was used towards the end of last academic year.  Attached to this email is a guide for parents/carers of Year 7 students so they are aware of how to set this up and ensure students can access the virtual lessons.

Technical support

All the learning resources needed to support home learning can be found within the Study Zone section of the school website. http://www.charlton.uk.com/quick-links/students/study-zone

If any parents/carers or students need support accessing Doddle or Microsoft Teams please email us at helpme@charlton.uk.com

Lesson 6

A reminder that the lesson 6 intervention sessions will be commencing with Year 11 from Monday 21st September (3.15pm – 4.15pm).  More detailed information relating to lesson 6 has already been sent to parents/carers and letters will be generated every two weeks showing which lessons students are required to attend.

Extra-curricular Clubs

Some of these will be starting up again from Monday 21st September, with the students taking part remaining within their year group bubbles.  Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to open clubs across multiple year groups, for example, breakfast club.  We will continue to review this.

Thank you again for your continued support during this time. Best wishes and good health.

Yours faithfully

Mr J Foster

Vice Principal (Quality of Education)
