Confirmed Covid-19 Case

Dear Parent/Carer,

We have been advised that we have had a test result come back positive for Covid-19 of a Year 11 student at Charlton.  Parents of students in the same classes or close contacts were advised to isolate their children this morning.

A further letter has gone out to these parents via email during the day, please check your spam folder if you have not received the letter and your child is in isolation. The isolation period runs until Sunday 25th October.

Please can I remind you that next week the canteen is running a reduced service and that for the remainder of this half-term, there will be a lunch service only (no food at break) with grab bags available, containing a sandwich, snack and drink. I would advise that students bring their own food during this time where possible.  The school will continue to provide for students entitled to a free school meal and for students unable to bring their own.

If you have subscribed to the Telford and Wrekin Newsletter you will have seen yesterday that they have reported that local coronavirus cases have quadrupled in the last four weeks with a 45% increase in the last seven days.  They are becoming increasingly concerned that with the current level of growth of the virus, the area is heading towards Tier Two Restrictions.  Further information can be viewed here:

It has never been more important that we all do as much as we can to limit the spread and as such may I take this opportunity to reinforce the symptoms of Covid-19 to ensure that if students or any family members are displaying any of the below illnesses, the whole family should remain at home whilst awaiting the outcome of a test.

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID 19) are recent onset of:

  • A new continuous cough and/or
  • High temperature and/or
  • A loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

If you are concerned about your child and the symptoms of COVID-19, please seek advice from your GP, NHS Direct or by calling NHS 111.

Despite the concerns about the increasing infection rate locally, I would like to stress the importance of sending your child to school throughout these difficult times. With that in mind, please do not hesitate to contact school if you have any questions, via the school phone number or by email.

Yours sincerely

Mr A McNaughton
