School Council
The School Council of Charlton School aims to provide an environment in which all students can get their ideas and thoughts through, and noticed. We do this by holding meetings with all years, collecting ideas, then reacting to the problems and developing the ideas. In the council, we have in essence three “stages” :
- Stage One : Year Meetings
- Stage Two : Student Council
- Stage Three : Grouped Council
If we take for example, a Year 7, who comes up with an idea, he would take his idea to his elected “Form Representative”. The “Form Representative” would then take the idea to the Year Meeting, which involves all the “Form Representatives” from one of the years. These meetings are headed by about four Year 11 Student Leaders.
The Year 11s then take all the ideas from all the years to the Student Council, who allocate each idea or problem to one of the following groups : Communication, Wellbeing, Support, Entertainment and Sports.
The respective groups then “solve” the problem and/or develop the ideas.
The idea of this system is to maximise efficiency and minimise intimidation, especially to the younger years, who often have just as good ideas as the higher years.
If you wish to find out more about the new school council system, feel free to contact any of the Year 11 in Mrs Sherry's form, Textiles, at either 8:45 or 1:20.
