Clive
Clive is named after Robert Clive famously known as 'Clive of India. Robert Clive was a British soldier who established the military and political supremacy of the East India Company in Southern India and Bengal. He was one of the key figures in the creation of British India.
The House Leaders of Clive think that Robert Clive is a good rolemodel for many reasons. "Robert Clive, born in 1725, had a troubled childhood, he was expelled from 3 different schools and he also attempted to set up a protection racket enforced by a gang of youths who vandalized shops that didn't cooperate but despite this, at the age of eighteen, Clive was sent out to Madras (now Chennai) as a "factor" or "writer" in the civil service of the East India Company. Then through tremendous bravery and military genius he was made the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and by the end of his life had amassed at least £300,000 ( a huge fortune in the 18th century). Not only had he done that but he had expanded and secured the British Empire enourmously. We think that the qualities of bravey, determination and patriotism that he posessed are very admirable."
