Jake's Story

Jake's Story

After completing my GCSE's at Charlton in 2013, I enrolled at Telford New College where I studied for my A-levels in Law, Early modern history as well as English language and literature. As a result of achieving A grades in my A-levels I successfully began my studies at University for my Law degree in September 2015. During my time at University I actively participated in the Law Society and the Advocacy Society as well as completing a series of mini-pupillages in barristers chambers across the UK including 187 Fleet Street Chambers (London), Exchange Chambers (Liverpool), St. Ives Chambers (Birmingham), Linenhall Chambers (Chester) and Regents Chambers (Staffordshire). I was also fortunate enough to secure a marshalling placement at Shrewsbury Crown Court working alongside His Honour Judge Peter Barrie on judicial proceedings.

In my final year, I won the 2018 UK Supreme Court Mooting Competition which concerned the existence and operation of half-secret trusts where acceptance/communication occurred post execution of the will. This was presented in the Supreme Court to Lord Hughes. On 12th July 2018 I graduated University with a First Class Bachelor of Laws degree with honours.

Over the course of the those three years, I would acquire a number of scholarships, prizes and awards for my efforts in law both on my degree and in the community. The first of these was one of the prestigious Inns of Court Scholarships with the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in London where I was subsequently admitted to the roll of honour of the Middle Temple which serves as a professional body for Barristers in the UK. I would achieve further success through being awarded the Nottingham Law School Deans Professional Courses Scholarship for Academic Excellence in 2018 which allowed me to study the LLM Bar Professional Training Course after I obtained my Bachelors Degree.
