School Uniform

Charlton School has tremendous pride in all our students and we truly value their commitment to their school. We passionately believe that the students’ appearance supports our positive ethos and our school uniform demonstrates the pride of belonging to our community.

Although we are pleased with the introduction of the knee length pleated shirts, we introduced last year, an increasing number of girls are now wearing inappropriate trousers. The approved school trousers should be non-skinny and ankle length and worn with white socks. Some girls are now wearing fashionable ‘ankle grazers’ trousers, which are not part of the uniform. There is also an increasing prevalence of ‘Dolly’ shoes, with gold adornments – these shoes are also not allowed.

On a positive note, in response to Student Voice and parental requests, students will, for the first time, be able to wear earrings in school. Governors have approved one small flat silver or gold stud earring to wear in one or both earlobes, from September.

We continue to strive to raise expectations at Charlton School and hope you will be able to support us on this issue. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Pastoral Manager, or Mr Denfhy, Deputy Headteacher.

Yours faithfully

Mr A McNaughton
